Fire and Ice

The Music of Barbara Strozzi and Isabella Leonarda

These two Baroque Italian women led vastly different lives, but were among the very first women to publish music under their own names. They both wrote much of their own poetry and often called upon the images of fire and ice to describe their inner most emotions. This program features works for two sopranos, recorder, violin, cello, and continuo.
